Świnoujście – good to know

01

A town on islands

Świnoujście is a port town and seaside resort on the Baltic, spread over 44 islands and islets. The largest are Usedom, Wolin and Karsibór.

Guests come here from Poland, Germany and Scandinavia. The town is clean, safe and well kept. The main attractions are the sandy beach and the seaside promenade – but there is much more on offer.

What to do besides the beach

When the weather is not right for swimming, there is still plenty to do in Świnoujście – depending on what you enjoy.

  • Cycling: the town has many cycle routes, including one along the beach all the way to Germany. A relaxed ride around the island of Usedom is also worth it.
  • Peace and quiet: a bench by the North Basin (Basen Północny), a walk through the Spa Park or along the promenade.
  • History: the Świnoujście forts – Gerhard Fort, West Fort and the Underground City.
  • Views: the Świnoujście lighthouse and the viewing platform in the tower of the Church of Christ the King.
  • Water and boats: a cruise around the port or the nearby waters shows Świnoujście from a completely different angle.
  • A stroll: the promenade, the area around the breakwater and the Stawa Młyny beacon – one of the town’s best-known landmarks.
  • Germany: for a longer outing, combine a walk or bike ride with a trip to the German part of Usedom, e.g. Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf or Bansin.
  • Culture and rainy days: check which exhibitions, concerts or events are on in town.
  • Evenings: cafés, restaurants and, in summer, beach bars and venues along the promenade.

Where to eat

There are a great many restaurants, cafés, bars and snack bars along the promenade. A trip into the town centre is also worthwhile – there are places with good food there too. By the sea we recommend fish and regional cuisine.
